Please join me and my co-host, Dawn Helmrich Neuburg, for the 14th episode of “Shining Light on Shadows: A Candid Conversation About Mental Health.” Our guest will be Steffen Kaplan. He is a colleague of mine at Digimentors.
Steffen will share how he has found Nature walks, particularly with his camera in hand, to be great for his mental health. You can find his nature photography and commentary @spinitsocial on all social channels.
We’ll be live Thursday, August 22 at 7pm ET / 6pm CT / 4pm PT. If you can’t watch the show live, you can watch the recording at your convenience on this website or the links below.

As Steffen wrote in his blog post, Nature Photography Keeps Me Healthy, Happy and Focused, “When I am out on my walks…I let everything flow and things just develop right in front of me as I am observing and absorbing the natural environment.”
As Dawn wrote in her blog post, Finding That Something That Brings Us Joy Is Well Worth the Effort, “Finding that thing or things in our lives that makes us feel better when we are struggling is probably one of the most important aspects of self-love and wellness.”
My blog post took a different tack. In “Nature Walks Are Good; But Is It the Right Place To Start With Self-Care?” I wrote about its importance as an act of self-care, but also acknowledged that I often don’t know where to start. I wrote, in part, “I think I get overwhelmed thinking about the possibilities. Self-care is absolutely important. But where do I start…Not knowing where to start leads to paralysis and not starting anywhere.”
Dawn and I launched this twice a month show (the 2nd and 4th Thursdays of the month) in order to help reduce the stigma associated with mental health. In the coming weeks and months, we’ll be joined by friends and colleagues who are working through or have worked through their own challenges, practitioners who can speak to some of the issues faced by their clients and advocates who can talk about a range of different issues.
The show is produced by Digimentors on a pro bono basis.
