Ep. 16 Claire Filipek | Shining Light on Shadows: The Highs and Lows of Managing Bipolar 1 Disorder

Updated: Sep 26

We’re going to hear about the highs and lows of managing Bipolar 1 Disorder from Claire Filipek on Thursday at 7pm ET / 6pm CT. She’s the guest on the 16th episode of “Shining Light on Shadows: A Candid Conversation About Mental Health.” Dawn Helmrich is my co-host.

We’ll be live Thursday, September 12 at 7pm ET / 6pm CT / 4pm PT. If you can’t watch the show live, you can watch the recording at your convenience on this website or the links below.

You can watch the live show or recording here

*We won't know the exact urls for Twitter and Instagram until we go live.

These links go to Neil and Dawn's accounts respectively.

In her blog post, “Coming to Terms With – And Managing – Bipolar 1 Disorder,” Claire Filipek writes about her experiences with specific episodes, how she’s come to identify when they might happen and the support she’s gotten from her family.

Dawn, in her blog post, “Posting All of My Feelings on Social Media Is Very Intentional” writes about how people reacted the first time she posted about her feelings on social media. She recognizes protective “mask” people dealing with mental health challenges use every day but does her best to remove her mask as often as possible.

Dawn and I launched this twice a month show (the 2nd and 4th Thursdays of the month) in order to help reduce the stigma associated with mental health. In the coming weeks and months, we’ll be joined by friends and colleagues who are working through or have worked through their own challenges, practitioners who can speak to some of the issues faced by their clients and advocates who can talk about a range of different issues.

The show is produced by Digimentors on a pro bono basis.
