Imagine not being able to remember your childhood. Any of it. Because of trauma. Because of repressed memories. For Ep. 24 of “Shining Light on Shadows: A Candid Conversation About Mental Health,” Dawn Helmrich Neuburg will be the guest and I’ll interview her as the host.

This is a follow-up to our conversation with Tim Fielder about EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing). Dawn has used this therapy to help recover some (but not all of her childhood memories. It’s a powerful story.

Please join us Thursday, February 27 at 7 p.m. ET / 6 p.m. CT / 4 p.m. PT. If you can’t watch the live show feel free to watch the recording on the same links.

Programming Note: The show airs the second and fourth Thursdays of the month. On March 13, Pradnya Haldipur will be our guest. We’ll focus on managing mental health while still being effective at work.

You can watch the live show or recording on this website

or watch and comment on social media:

*We won't know the exact urls for Twitter and Instagram until we go live. For now, these links go to Neil's Twitter and Instagram.

As Dawn wrote in Cherish Your Memories; Losing Them to Trauma Is Devastating,

“I couldn’t remember large portions of my childhood from before I got raped…Every session I would get to, bits and pieces of information from my childhood would come back to me.”

Her blog post is powerfully written. I found it more heartbreaking than reading about her memoir about being attacked and raped.

In the post, she shares how EMDR brought her closer to what she hoped to learn about childhood, but unfortunately it didn’t fill in all the gaps.

Dawn and I launched this twice a month show (the 2nd and 4th Thursdays of the month) in order to help reduce the stigma associated with mental health. Thank you for being part of our community.

We are proud to be in Year 2 of the show. If you are interested in being a guest on the show or know someone who might be interested, please let us know. We’re looking for people who would be willing to share their story, advocates and people who work in the field of mental health.

We hope you can watch the show and share your own thoughts in the comments.

“Shining Light on Shadows: A Candid Conversation About Mental Health” is produced by Digimentors on a pro bono basis.
